Jese has proved surplus to Real Madrid’s squad requirements

Paris St. Germain have confirmed the signing of Real Madrid forward Jese Rodriguez for a reported €25 million fee. The Spaniard has signed a 5 year deal that will keep him at the Ligue 1 champions until 2021, becoming PSG’s fifth major signing of the summer, leaving Los Blancos at the age of 26 after spending his whole footballing career in Madrid.

Jese’s transfer was confirmed on PSG’s official website, with the club also welcoming him on Twitter:

Speaking to the French side’s official website, Jese outlined his pleasure at signing for the club, noting the influence of Europa League winning manager Unai Emery, saying “I am delighted to join Paris Saint-Germain, who have become one of Europe’s most competitive clubs.”

“Like Paris Saint-Germain, I have big ambitions for the coming seasons and it will be a great pleasure to work under the direction of Unai Emery, who has developed an excellent reputation in Spain, and across Europe, for his quality as a coach. I can’t wait to begin this next challenge of my career.”

Similarly, PSG Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi welcomed the speedy winger, saying “I am very happy to welcome Jese to PSG. His speed and creative qualities will complement our excellent attacking players. With Jese, our squad is now, more than ever, armed to confront the coming challenges and meet the expectations of our fans.”
Jese’s transfer is a win-win for all parties involved

Jese spent his whole career at Real Madrid, being promoted to the senior side in the 2012/13 season. The forward saw his chances for the first side not improve, with Zinedine Zidane using him sparingly last season. The arrival of Alvaro Morata has basically put a death knell to his chances of starting for Real Madrid, with Zidane earlier confirming that Jese was close to joingin the Ligue 1 champions.

While Jese is surplus to requirements in Madrid, he could become a pivotal player under Unai Emery for PSG, with the former Sevilla manager favouring speedy strikers. PSG have already signed Hatem Ben Arfa, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Thomas Meunier and Giovani Lo Celso, and with the addition of Jese, ought to be enough to placate fans disappointed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure to Manchester United.
